Atlanta United hosts LAFC in a rare intra-conference matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Red and Black are coming off of a 3-2 victory over Columbus as they stretched their unbeaten run to three games while the Black and Gold are winless in five, 2-1 losers to Real Salt Lake in their last match.

Atlanta United will be without a trio of midfielders: Emerson Hyndman, who had knee surgery and is out for the season, Mo Adams, sidelined with a quad issue and Franco Ibarra. defender Brooks Lennon and forward Jake Mulraney are doubtful.

Only two players will miss this clash for LAFC as Kwadwo Opoku is out with a quad injury and central defender Eddie Segura has a knee issue.

Ones to watch

The duo of Ezequiel Barco and Marcelino Moreno were dominant against Columbus. Barco returned from the Olympics, leading the team with five shots and shots on target with a four on his way to a brace. Moreno led the Red and Black with five chances created, drew two penalties, and passed at a 93 percent clip.

Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi remain one of the league's top goal-scoring duos with ten between them despite both players missing significant time with injury. Eduard Atuesta and Jesus Murillo joined Vela and Rossi on this year's MLS All-Star team.

Previous meetings

This is only the third all-time meeting between Atlanta United and LAFC. Both matchups came in the 2018/19 season with the Red and Black running out 5-0 winners at home behind a brace from Miguel Almiron as well as goals from Julian Gressel, Josef Martinez and Romario Williams.

The reverse fixture saw the Black and Gold claim a wild 4-3 victory. Adams gave the hosts a second-minute lead before Adama Diomande, Diego Rossi and Carlos Vela gave LAFC a 3-1 advantage. Eduard Atuesta and Josef Martinez exchanged goals in first-half stoppage time and Segura closed the scoring in the 51st minute.
