The United States Men's National Team returned back home to its sacred ground in Columbus, Ohio as they took on El Salvador in the recent window of World Cup Qualifying. In what would pan out to be an intriguing match, would go on to defeat by a score of

USMNT 1-0 El Salvador

El Salvador seemed to struggle early on as keeper Mario Gonzalez couldn't settle the ball nicely with his feet before richocheting a pass off of the face of Jesus Ferreira before calmly collecting with his hands.

In the 16th minute, Ferreira had the greatest look in the opening quarter hour of the match, when he collected a pass from Antonee Robinson and took a shot that just sailed high over the crossbar.

Just minutes later Sergino Dest picked out Weah inside the penalty area, who flicked a header to the back post for a trailing Ferreira who just merely made up for his mistake prior. However the attempt by the FC Dallas youngster just popped over the crossbar for a goal kick.

The visitors were given a golden ticket to take a crucial lead after the USMNT gave away possession in the midfield. Alex Roldan took a shot from just outside the box that just missed the far post of Matt Turner, but went out for a goal kick.

Weah had his chance to break the seal when his left-footed chance got deflected out for a corner kick just before halftime.

Both teams headed into the locker rooms squared at 0-0, with the USMNT looking the most dangerous in the opening 45 minutes.

Robinson opens the scoring

In the (?) minute, Fulham FC man Antonee Robinson netted home the games first goal. Weah took a shot on goal that was saved by Gonzalez and fell to the head of Ferreira who passed it to Robinson for the goal that sent the home crowd into a freezing frenzy.

The USMNT had plenty of chances to double their lead, including several headers and missed chances but nothing came of it.

A quiet second half saw the Red, White & Blue defeat El Salvador 1-0. Next up for the Stars & Stripes, Canada north of the boarder in what will be a must win game to enhance the possibility of the USA making the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

You can catch the match against Canada Sunday, January 30. Kickoff is slated for 3:05pm.
