Madison Keys continued her incredible start to the 2022 season as the 51st-ranked American overwhelmed eighth seed Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-1 on Rod Laver Arena in the fourth round of the 2022 Australian Open.

In their first-ever meeting, Keys fired off 26 winners and broke the Spaniard five times as she improved her record to 9-0 following her title in Adelaide.

Badosa was aiming to reach her first quarterfinal at Melbourne Park and second overall following her appearance in the last eight at Roland Garros last year.

Keys came out firing, winning 12 of the first 17 points to build a 3-0 lead. One of those was a break in the second game with a crunching backhand that Badosa had no reply for.

The Spaniard saved a break point in her next service game, but she was powerless to do anything on the Keys serve. The American served up an ace for a 5-2 advantage and closed out the set to love two games later.

Three straight breaks to start the set were capped off when Badosa double-faulted on consecutive points to give Keys a 2-1 lead. A second break soon followed to put the world number 51 in total control.

Serving to stay in the match, A dispirited Badosa again double-faulted to bring up match point and she dumped a forehand into the net as Keys won the final five games of the match to cap off a superior performance.
