Arsenal Ladies goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal has signed a new contact with the club, details of which remain undisclosed.

Van Veenendaal began her career at FC Utrecht in 2007 as Angela Christ's understudy. She moved to FC Twente in 2010 after three years at Ultrecht before joining Arsenal in 2015. Van Veenendaal made 98 appearances for FC Twente in the domestic league, winning the Eredivisie in 2011 and the BeNe League in 2013.

She also won the Continental Cup with the Gunners in her first year at the club, keeping a clean sheet against Notts County in the final and establishing herself as the number one choice ahead of the 2016 FA Women's Super League season. Recent impressive performances against Manchester City and Notts County in the league and the FA Women's Cup respectively have only strengthened her position.

The 26-year-old made her senior international debut for the Netherlands in a 6–0 win over Switzerland at the 2011 Cyprus Cup. She was also part of the Dutch team for the UEFA Women's Euro 2013. She has made 14 appearances for her country to date.

Losa delighted

Arsenal Ladies boss Pedro Martinez Losa said: “We are delighted that Sari has chosen to extend her time with us. She is proving to be a top goalkeeper who has a real hunger to succeed.”

Mixed start for Arsenal

Arsenal have had a good start to the season, beating new promoted Reading 3-1, debutant Oshoala scoring. A red card for Jemma Rose against Manchester City meant that the Gunners had to spend almost three quarters of the game with ten players. A great performance from van Veenendaal wasn't enough as City eventually broke the deadlock. Arsenal returned to winning ways, knocking Notts County out on penalties to reach the semi finals of the 2016 FA Women's Cup.
