Liverpool will retain interest in transfer targets Mahmoud Dahoud and Christian Pulisic despite having failed to secure deals to bring them in this summer.
The window closed on Wednesday night with the Reds having not made a signing since mid-July, when they welcomed Georginio Wijnaldum to Merseyside.
But that has not put them off Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Dahoud or teenage Borussia Dortmund winger Pulisic.
Jürgen Klopp had shown interest in Dahoud since the beginning of the summer, identifying the Germany Under-21s international as the kind of tenacious controlling midfielder that his side lacked.
But a deal proved too problematic to complete, with Gladbach refusing to do business despite the Reds' willingness to pay as much as £25 million for the 20-year-old.
With the Bundesliga outfit having already lost midfielders Granit Xhaka and Havard Nordtveit to Arsenal and West Ham United, they were reluctant to lose more key players.
However, Liverpool's ongoing pursuit of Dahoud has been given a boost with the deep-lying playmaker having turned down Gladbach's offer of a new contract as he enters the final year of his existing deal next year.
Dahoud is unlikely to put pen-to-paper on a new contract but Liverpool will face competition for his signature, meaning qualifying for Champions League football could be crucial as to convincing him to come to Merseyside.
Despite signing Wijnaldum from Newcastle United to bolster central midfield, Klopp still eyes a place in his squad for Dahoud and will retain interest in him in the future.
Reds still keen on highly-rated teenager Pulisic
Klopp will also return with more bids for 17-year-old Pulisic, whom he worked with at former club Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool's move for the US international arose later in the window, submitting an £11 million bid which was firmly rejected, but they have not been put off of signing him.
Klopp is a keen admirer of Pulisic's talents, having promoted him to the first-team shortly after he signed for Dortmund's Academy in January 2015.
His first-team breakthrough came under Thomas Tuchel last term, making 12 appearances and scoring two goals, while he also scored on his international debut for the United States.
Dortmund however refused to sanction a sale for the forward although his opportunities in the senior squad are expected to be limited this year, given the attacking signings they have made over the summer.
Nevertheless, Liverpool will go back in for Pulisic - who was also subject to interest from Stoke City among other clubs - in future transfer windows, with next summer likely to see Liverpool act on their interest.
Pulisic is also entering the final year of his contract in 2017, meaning Klopp could look to try and bring both in next summer - though deals could depend on whether Liverpool are playing top-level European football in 2017-18.
