In the summer, it wasn’t just signings on the field that Jürgen Klopp was overseeing at Liverpool, as he was also recruiting off the field.

It resulted in The Reds bringing in Andreas Kornmayer as Head of Fitness and Conditioning and Mona Nemmer as Head of Nutrition from German Champions Bayern Munich.

The revamp of Liverpool’s backroom staff and the added expertise brought by the two new additions have benefitted the Liverpool squad massively with Klopp lookalike Kornmayer working with the players to get them in the best physical shape possible coming into the current season.

Jordan Henderson has been very impressed with Kornmayer. He said: “He’s been brilliant. He’s really come in and put his own stamp on what he wants to do".

The Liverpool captain added that he has a "good relationship will all the lads" but the German still "works us very hard" and Henderson appreciates that because it helps him and the rest of the squad improve.

“We’ve got a great bunch of lads that want to work, so that makes it easier for him, but the things he’s done have definitely put us in good condition.”

The England international points to performances on the pitch when assessing how the changes have impacted Liverpool positively with the “energy levels we’ve had” allowing the players to adapt to Jürgen Klopp’s high intensity style.

Henderson himself spoke positively of his own condition as he makes up for lost time after an injury plagued season last year where he struggled with a lack of playing and a lack of form.

“I feel very good at the moment, probably the best I’ve felt in years really in terms of my fitness and just in general.”

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool’s no.14 believes are reaping the rewards of “the base we had” that was built up over pre-season and the whole squad have “built on that over the first few weeks of the season” and the players will “continue to do that in training.”

“We’re all looking good, we’re all looking healthy and fit, and that’s a big thing.”

Henderson impressed by Nemmer

Henderson also had praise for Nemmer who has taken Liverpool’s dieting “to another level” with the “unbelievable” food being provided and making sure that “everything is covered nutritionally.”

“In pre-season, I couldn’t believe it – we’re getting a bit spoilt, actually.

Before adding, "She’s been world-class, making sure we’re getting the right food in after games.”

The innovation brought to the club by Nemmer is something Henderson admits he has “never seen anything like it since I’ve been involved in football” with the former Sunderland man impressed with how “everything seems to be done and checked off for us to go out at the weekend and perform.”

Henderson has been impressed with the nutritional variation on offer as “having the same things all the time can get a bit boring” but the food that’s been introduced is “always different” and “changes all the time” which pleases the captain as he believes “it’s good for you to try different things.”

“Nutrition is a massive part of football, it makes sure you’re healthy, fit and feeling good, and that’s definitely been a side we’ve improved massively on.”
