Brighton and Hove Albion's women's team have announced that Danish central defender Matilde Lundorf will leave the club when her contract concludes

The Danish international, who was born in Nottingham, came through the youth academy at Paris Saint Germain, before starting her senior career at VSK Aarhus and has made a number of appearances for her country's youth sides.

The 21-year-old joined the Albion in the summer of last year and made a total of nine appearances across the 2019/20 season but has chosen to play elsewhere from next season onwards.

'We'll miss Matilde'

When the news was announced, Brighton Head Coach Hope Powell told brightonandhovealbion.com that the club will miss Lundorf:

“Matilde was an important member of the squad last season and we made her an offer to stay but she has decided to further her career elsewhere.

“It’s a shame and we’ll miss Matilde. She brought a lot to the club on and off the field and we wish her all the best for the future.”

In the same statement, the club also announced that the following players have chosen to extend their contracts on the South coast further and will be at the club next year:

  • Dani Bowman
  • Kirsty Barton
  • Jodie Brett
  • Emily Simpkins
  • Laura Rafferty
  • Victoria Williams
  • Ellie Brazil
  • Rianna Jarrett

Speaking about those who have extended their contracts, Powell added:

“We’re delighted to have the nucleus of a strong squad committed for next season. We are working hard to bring in some new faces so we can build on the progress we’ve made since joining the WSL.

“There is no firm date for when the season will re-start but we hope for some clarity soon so we can start looking forward and planning for a resumption of football.”
