Tottenham Hotspur will look to complete the double over their bitter rivals on Sunday as they travel to the other side of North London to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium

With the visitors on a run of three wins in a row, and the hosts having lost, drawn and won one of their last three games, both teams are looking for the points to continue pushing up the table. 

If Arsenal win the game on Sunday, they will go four points behind their rivals. 

Ahead of the game, VAVEL UK look back at the five previous meetings between the two teams in the league. 

  • Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur - 02 December 2018 

Arsenal took the lead early on in this fixture with Jan Vertonghen conceding a penalty in the 10th minute after a handball. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted the spot kick. 

Tottenham drew level after Eric Dier converted a wonderful Christian Eriksen free kick. The Englishman received a booking for his celebration of this goal, with Arsenal fans and players alike unimpressed by his reaction. 

Within minutes of equalising, Spurs took the lead after Harry Kane converted a penalty after Heung-min Son was fouled in the penalty area. 

Spurs failed to capitalise on their lead, with Aubameyang getting a second in the second half before Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira secured the victory for the hosts. 

  • Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Arsenal - 02 March 2019 

Arsenal scored early on against Spurs again, with Aaron Ramsey striking after the hosts committed too many men forward and Lacazette released Ramsey. 

Spurs won a penalty in the second half, to the dismay of the Gunners. Kane was fouled by Granit Xhaka but the striker looked to be offside.  

Referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot and Kane converts the spot kick. 

The drama did not end there when Arsenal won a penalty in the 90+1 minute. Aubameyang stepped up and Hugo Lloris made an incredible save to deny their rivals the win.  

In the dying minutes of the game, Torreira was given a straight red card for a foul on Danny Rose

  • Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur - 01 September 2019 

Spurs took the lead early on in this game, with a close-range tap-in from Eriksen after Bernd Leno hit the ball to the feet of Eriksen after saving a shot from Erik Lamela

The visitors doubled their lead after Kane converted a penalty after a foul on Son by Xhaka. 

Lacazette hit Arsenal back into the game on the stroke of half-time after he aimed with power on his left foot and found the back of the net. 

Aubameyang equalised for the Gunners from close range; 20 minutes before the end of the game. 

Arsenal were convinced they had completed the comeback and secured all three points after Sokratis scored by bundling the ball into the back of the net, but an earlier offside disallowed the goal and the game ended in a draw. 

  • Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Arsenal - 12 July 2020 

Lacazette opened the scoring in the first quarter of the game scoring a wonderful goal from 20-yards out. But within minutes, the hosts equalised. 

Son found the back of the net after poor defending from the Arsenal defenders. 

With 10 minutes left of the game, the hosts have a corner that is headed into the back of the net by Toby Alderweireld. Son delivered a dangerous cross into the box before the defender hits his header across the goal and into the far corner. 

The first North London Derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended in a victory for the hosts.

  •  Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Arsenal - 06 December 2020  

Spurs won the most recent game between the rivals after two first-half goals.  

Son opened the scoring after a beautiful goal on the counterattack and scores into the top right corner from 30-yards. A goal assisted by Kane. 

Just before the break, Son hit Kane with the reverse and assisted the striker into doubling the team's lead.  Spurs caught the visitors on the counter once again and Kane’s shot hit the bar and went into the back of the net. 

In one of the few games that hosted fans towards the end of 2020, the 2000 Spurs fans in the crowd will have been very happy to see their team beat their rivals. 

With both teams needing the points in their push to go up the table and a fierce rivalry, their fixture on Sunday is expected to a huge test for both teams.
