In what was a game of two halves really, Lincoln City steal the points from Burton Albion in a game where Brewers fans can certainly be proud of their side for holding their own against a top side.

  • Story of the game

First half

Brennan Johnson has been at the main focal point of lots that the visitors have done this season, expectedly he started the game lively and looked a threat from the first minute.

He looked to be in on goal, but Tom Hamer did well to get across and cut out the danger.

Lucas Akins tried to force one through for the hosts, but the Lincoln goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

After a frantic opening to the game, the Imps took the lead. Eyoma, the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender, scored his first goal for Lincoln. He was free at the back post to head home after Tayo Edun whipped the ball in.

Johnson was causing more trouble, he got into a great position inside the box who used his tricky feet to strike, but his effort was blocked by the Burton captain.

Michael Mancienne was unable to continue for the Brewers, he was replaced by Terry Taylor just before the break.

The 27th minute goal from Eyoma was enough to separate the sides at half. It was a well deserved lead for the Imps at the interval. 19-year-old Johnson ran the show for the away side in the opening 45 minutes.

Second half

Burton came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, the intensity was high as soon as they got underway. Taylor had a shot blocked before Sean Clare got in on the act, but he couldn't keep his shot on target.

They came close again just minutes later, Brayford unleashed a powerful shot which very nearly found its way in. Brewers started to knock on the door.

Ben Garratt was having another great game for Burton, after making multiple good stops to keep the score at 1-0.

Considering they were 1-0 down for alot of the game, the hosts defended very well. The yellow shirts were flying in front of every shot, bodies on the line left right and centre.

Joe Powell came on for the hosts, and was an instant threat, he could have had a penalty on another day, however claims were waved away.

Just seconds later, the 22-year-old found space on the edge of the box and had a snapshot saved by the Lincoln 'keeper.

There was three minutes of stoppage time, but Lincoln held on in a gritty win in Staffordshire. Eyoma with the only goal of the game.

  • Key takeaway

Youngsters shine for visitors

Right from the first minute, Brennan Johnson was causing trouble for the Brewers' defence, he was all over the shop. Sliding his opponent, skipping past tackles. The Nottingham Forest loanee was sublime.

Morgan Rogers, on loan from Manchester City similarly to Johnson, was fluid in attack, causing trouble.

And last but not least, TJ Eyoma, the goalscorer for the visitors was strong at the back, holding his own in the game and being a commander at the back.
