Tottenham Hotspur new managing director Fabio Paratici has already started the process of re-building the squad, and is closing on signing two players that could be key for Spurs.

According to Football London, the 'Lilywhites' are in advanced talks to sign the Atalanta duo Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini.

Romero's background

The Italian director, Paratici previously signed the Argentinian centre-back during his tenure at Juventus

Last season, Romero played a huge role in Atalanta's campaign in the Serie A, leading them to UEFA Champions League football next season. He also played three games in Argentina's Copa America title run this summer.

Romero, who was Serie A's Defender of the Year in the 2020 / 21 campaign, is a versatile defender, as he's able to play as a centre-back or right-back.

While at Atalanta, the 23 year-old played 42 games across all competitions last season, recording three goals and five assists.

Gollini in-depth

The Italian goalkeeper would be a great fit for Tottenham in case Hugo Lloris decides to depart next summer, as the Frenchman's contract is set to expire in 2022.

Gollini, who started his senior career at Hellas Verona, has had two spells playing in England, including Manchester United in the academy and Aston Villa in 2016.

The 26 year-old joined Atalanta in 2018 on a permanent deal, and has competed in 10 UEFA Champions League games throughout his career.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Tottenham could potentially sell the veteran goalkeeper Joe Hart in order to create space for Atalanta's Gollini.

What does this mean?

These two signings are expected to significally strength Tottenham's back-line, as The Athletic UK confirmed head coach Nuno Espírito Santo is expected to move away from a back three at Spurs.

Multiple reports have stated that there's supposed to be a significant number of outgoings in North London before Tottenham's Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 15th.
