Burnley have been linked with Arthur Gomes from Brazilian side Santos for a fee of 2.5million euros.

The news comes after Andre Noruega, a Norweigan representative of Santos FC Europe stated on his Twitter account: “Arthur Gomes joining Burnley and will play in the Premier League.

a transfer rumour that would go against Burnley's traditions but that may just be what the club needs.

  • Career so far

Now, if you've never heard that name before don't worry not many fans have. However, the Brazilian does have major connections with his agent reportedly being Neymar's father. The Paris Saint-Germain superstar also follows the Brazilian on Twitter.

Gomes has played for three different clubs so far across Brazil donning the shirt For Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, Atlético Clube Goianiense and Santos.

In his 120 professional appearances he has scored 13 goals and provided two assists, not amazing numbers for a winger but at his age, he still has developing to do.

His natural position is right-wing but has played on the left and as an attacking midfielder previously. The fast, technical winger has his career managed by Neymar's father and is reportedly on his way to England.

A tweet from explains the situation. "Atlético Goianiense informs that the athlete Arthur Gomes is no longer part of its squad. In the temporary session there was a release clause which, in case of a proposal abroad in August, the athlete could be released."

  • Burnley break the mould

Transfer windows for the Clarets in recent years haven't exactly been inspiring but this signing, if it goes ahead, could be a turning point under Alan Pace.

A tricky, South American winger doesn't scream Burnley but Sean Dyche has previously expressed his desire for the club to improve in the transfer window and with Pace and ALK giving him the backing it's no surprise Burnley have gone something different.

Fans have been calling for a winger this season window after it became an obvious troubled area in pre-season and Gomes may fill that void.

With the price tag low and the player on the right side of 25, this plus the Nathan Collins and Wayne Hennessey signings could turn out to be a savvy window for the Clarets
