Blackburn Rovers have started the new season looking revitalised and determined, despite being tipped to struggle to cope with the loss of star striker Adam Armstrong.

Tony Mowbray's side have opened up with one draw and two wins, the most recent of which came away at Nottingham Forest in midweek.

West Bromwich Albion have began the campaign as expected, looking lethal in attack and relatively solid in defence as they already occupy top spot.

A 4-0 win against fellow relegated side Sheffield United last time out will do their confidence a world of good heading into this tough test in Lancashire.

  • Team news

Blackburn Rovers

Tony Mowbray has revealed that full-back Ryan Nyambe will not feature in this clash, after picking up a slight hamstring strain in training.

Daniel Ayala is likely to feature, despite missing training this week following his recent recovery from injury.

Bradley Dack remains out with a long-term cruciate ligament injury.

West Brom

Valerien Ismael's Baggies have a clean bill of health and no new injuries heading into the Rovers matchup.

Romaine Sawyerswill not be available after joining Stoke City on a season-long loan this week.

  • Predicted lineups

Blackburn Rovers (4-2-3-1):

Kaminski; Carter, Lenihan, Ayala, Pickering; Travis, Rothwell; Gallagher, Buckley, Brereton-Diaz; Dolan.

West Brom (3-4-3):

Johnstone; O'Shea, Bartley, Clarke; Furlong, Livermore, Mowatt, Townsend; Diangana, Grant, Robinson.

  • Previous meetings

In the last five games between the two, West Brom have won twice, with two draws and one Blackburn victory.

The previous game between the two in July 2020 ended 1-1, with goals from Joe Rothwell and Filip Krovinovic.

The Baggies have won just one of their last 11 games at Ewood Park.

  • Ones to watch

Sam Gallagher

With Adam Armstrong stepping up to the Premier League in the summer, the onus is on players such as 25-year-old forward Sam Gallagher to fire the goals home for Rovers in his absence.

Gallagher is a tall, direct attacker and has been deployed on the wing and as a lone striker during his two previous seasons in Lancashire. He netted seven goals last term, and will be looking to add to the one he netted on the opening day against Swansea City.

Callum Robinson

Irish international Robinson has begun the season in fine form, with three goals in as many games. The 26-year-old was one of the Baggies’ better players as they got relegated last season, netting five goals in his maiden Premier League campaign.

With his tricky style of play, Robinson will want to get at Rovers' two slow centre-halves. He is certainly complemented by the pace of both Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant alongside him upfront.

  • How to watch

The game kicks off at 15:00 BST on Saturday August 21.

It will be unavailable to watch in the UK. Fans based overseas can watch a live stream of the game with a match pass for £10 on either club website.
