Each year, the Golden Boy Award is given by sports journalists to a young footballer playing in Europe perceived to have been the most impressive during a calendar year.

In order to be eligible for this award, all nominees must be under the age of 21 and play in a European nation's top tier.

That is the case for the Spanish sensation Bryan Gil, who has made it to the 20-man final shortlist for the 2021 Golden Boy award.

Gil, who was signed by Tottenham Hotspur from Sevilla this past summer, has recorded some impressive performances at both the Club and international stage, and is considered to be one of the young players with the most potential in the world.

Impact

Although he is yet to score for Spurs, Gil has showed some flashes of the great player he can become while playing in the Conference League and Carabao Cup respectively.

The Spanish winger has been in the European spotlight for quite some time now, considering he made 50 La Liga appearances before joining Spurs.

''It is different to the football I have played in Spain, it is a quicker pace and more attack and defence. It also is very beautiful football and very enjoyable,'' Gil said earlier this season.

''Hopefully, I will be able to score many goals and help my team like that but I can tell you I will be contributing with a lot of hard work and effort... My favourite position is as a left winger but I can adapt to any position that the manager tells me to.''

Other nominees

The 20 year-old isn't the only Premier League player to make the final list, considering  Bukayo Saka and Mason Greenwood are also in the race for the award.

Gil joined Pedri, Gavi and Yeremi Pino as the four Spanish players to be nominated for the award.

Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo Goes, Gio Reyna, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz are also in the 20-man shortlist for the prize handed out by Tuttosport.
