Thomas Tuchel decided to make six changes from Chelsea’s last premier league match against Brentford. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner missed out completely following the injuries they sustained against Malmö on Wednesday night.

Ngolo Kante was also absent from the matchday squad as well as Christian Pulisic who is still trying to recover from his injury. The injuries meant Kai Havertz replaced Lukaku upfront while Mason Mount replaced Werner on the left with Calum Hudson-Odoi starting on the right following his impressive substitute performance against Malmö.

Edouard Mendy will start in goal again following his world-class performance against Brentford last weekend to help Chelsea get the win.

Chelsea: Mendy, Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kovacic, James, Havertz, Mount, Hudson-Odoi

Daniel Farke decided to keep the same team that helped them get a draw last weekend. Billy Gilmour was unavailable to play against his parent club, while Todd Cantwell was also not involved as he continued his recovery from injury. It meant Summer signing Josh Sargent started again alongside Teemu Pukki upfront, while Mathias Normann will try and dominate the midfield.

Kenny McLean and Pierre Lees-Melou started either side of Normann with Farke hoping they can help stop Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic from dominating the midfield as well as getting forward to try and score a goal.

Norwich City: Krul, Gibson, Hanley, Kabak, Giannoulis, McLean, Normann, Lees-Melou, Aarons, Pukki, Sargent.

  • Story of the match

Straight from the kick-off, Chelsea asserted themselves onto Norwich City with Antonio Rudiger having an early shot on the Norwich goal.  Chelsea made their early dominance count when in the seventh minute they got the first goal of the match. Hudson-Odoi did brilliantly on the right-hand side before the ball arrived at the feet of Jorginho who laid it off to Mount who unleashed a rocket into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Chelsea continued to dominate and got their second in the 18th minute. Mateo Kovacic received the ball in midfield before sliding a defense-splitting pass through to Hudson-Odoi who comfortably dispatched the ball into the bottom right-hand corner from the left-hand side of the box.

Mount had a chance to get a third for Chelsea in the 29th minute. Havertz slid in Hudson-Odoi who glided past Ozan Kabak before passing it to Mount who's shot went over the bar.

Chelsea finally got their third goal in the 41st minute. Mount received the ball on the right-hand side following a switch of play before playing a first-time pass to Reece James who Deftly lifted the ball Over Tim Krul in the Norwich goal to give Chelsea a commanding three-nil lead going into halftime.

Norwich looked slightly better in the second half and got their best/first big chance of the match in the 53rd minute. Chilwell under-hit a back pass to Mendy which Milot Rashica latched onto and tried to go around Mendy but the Chelsea goalkeeper made a brilliant sliding tackle.

Chelsea got their fourth three minutes later. Reece James got down the right-hand side before passing the ball inside to Jorginho who laid it off to Kovacic who played it to Ben Chilwell on the left-hand side before the wing-back unleashed a venomous low driven shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Chelsea then got a fifth in the 62nd minute. Hudson-Odoi received the ball from Kovacic on the left-hand side before his attempted cross into the box took a deflection off Max Aarons and went past Krul.

Things then went even worse for Norwich as Ben Gibson managed to get himself sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Reece James.

From the red card onwards it was a shooting drill for Chelsea. Ross Barkley received the ball in the Norwich box and found himself one on one against Krul however he couldn't get the ball past the Norwich keeper.

Then in the 80th minute, Krul made another magnificent save this time from Hakim Ziyech who hit a ferocious shot with the outside of his left foot that needed to be tipped over the bar.

Chelsea got their sixth in the 84th minute. Norrman blocked an attempted shot from Rudiger in the box with his hands and Chelsea were awarded a penalty which Mason mount dispatched comfortably.

The demolition job was completed in the 91st minute when Loftus Cheek broke the Norwich offside trap before squaring the ball Mount who tapped into the goal to get his hat trick to round off what was a stunning performance.
