Celtic, Hammarby, and Lazio are rumoured to be chasing - former Huddersfield Town Head of Football Operations - David Webb as Technical Director.

Webb has been without a job since leaving 'The Terriers' at the end of last season, having previously held roles at Crystal Palace, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, and Östersunds.

The past few days have seen him speak on the technical director hunt at Newcastle United following the appointment of Eddie Howe, who he worked alongside at Bournemouth.

He explained the need to employ someone who has a good relationship with the manager to help support a 'very coach-dominated environment'.

Early career

Webb began his football career as an Academy Coach and Scouting Co-ordinator at Crystal Palace, where he is credited for discovering the starlet who we now all know to be Wilfried Zaha.

He moved to Spurs shortly after in the same role before moving to his third London club in Millwall where he was given the Head of Academy Coach role.

The experience he gained at these three clubs put him in good stead for his role at Southampton where he was a 15-21 talent scout and briefly worked in a set-up headed up by the relatively unknown Mauricio Pochettino after his appointment in January 2013.

Recent Success

Perhaps his biggest achievement to date has been his contribution to Bournemouth's promotion to the Premier League on such a limited budget, working alongside Howe.

'The Cherries' utilised their academy incredibly well to develop a strong squad good enough to secure promotions and gain sell-on value, with Newcastle's Callum Wilson a prime example of such success.

Webb has been highlighted for his most recent work at Huddersfield Town, bringing in their head coach Danny Cowley.

Emile Smith-Rowe has been in the headlines repeatedly in recent weeks due to his incredible form for Arsenal.

The youngster was rewarded with his international debut for England vs Albania and also scored on his first England start.

Someone who no doubt saw this coming was Webb, having been a key force in signing Smith-Rowe on loan while he was at Huddersfield.

His eye for talent is hard to argue with as he has the ability to spot potential years before the rewards are reaped.

What does he bring?

Celtic have had a tough time as of late following their decade of success in the Scottish Premier League, with Rangers lifting the title after going a season unbeaten.

He was touted to get the job earlier in the year when Celtic were restructuring their system, a strong indicator that the interest is well-founded.

His Talent ID ability alongside the skills a Technical Director possesses is a big factor in why Celtic believe he could be the man to turn their fortunes around.

Having also spent some time in Sweden with Östersunds, it is no surprise Hammarby are interested in appointing someone with knowledge of the league and the ability to help them break into Europe.

With young talent such as Akinkunmi Amoo amongst their ranks, Webb would be tasked with developing new talent and creating a pathway for the youth currently in the academy.

The proposition at Lazio is an interesting one seeing as it would be a first for Webb, holding a position in a 'Top Five' league outside of England.

Having enjoyed a good start to the season under Maurizio Sarri, Lazio would be an opportunity for Webb to really make a statement in a position of such power at a big European club.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen where he ends up, however, the sheer number of clubs interested only goes to show how highly he is valued.

Webb will be deemed a highly useful asset wherever he goes and will be hungry for more success.
