Nothing like kicking off the new year's at Vicarage Road as Watford hosted Tottenham Hotspur looking to earn their first league triumph since November 20.

Antonio Conte's side was undefeated in their last seven Premier League games, and were looking to extend the streak to eight at  Hertfordshire.

Story of the game

Since the beginning of the fixture at Vicarage Road, Spurs dominated the possession and had clear chances to take the lead.

On the flip side, the Hornets were waiting for the opportunity to take advantage of the spaces left by Antonio Conte's side.

Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son had the clearest chances of the game for Tottenham, but it was until the last minute of added time when they were able to take the lead.

Joao Pedro was the most dangerous player for the home side but still couldn't take advantage of his chances in front of Hugo Lloris' goal.

As time went by, Tottenham continued to create chances and the Hornets seemed more and more distant from getting a chance in attacking positions.

After a few minutes in which the game had to be stopped due to a medical emergency in the stands, the North London team continued with the dynamics carried out throughout the game.

By adding their defenders in attacking positions, Conte wanted to make sure his team earned all three away points. Precisely, one of these defenders, Davinson Sánchez, scored the goal that put Tottenham ahead on the scoreboard in the 96th. minute.

Result

Following this result, Antonio Conte's side is now sixth in the Premier League race with 33 points, while Watford sinks and is increasingly closer to the relegation places to the Championship.

The Italian manager has set a new Tottenham Hotspur Premier League record by going unbeaten in his first eight matches.

Spurs have also kept five clean sheets in those eight league games.
