West Bromwich Albion's January transfer window wasn't a massively eventful one.

Making a total of two additions and shipping out a further two, the Baggies made healthy choices to balance the books and address a key area of concern.

The window was seen out by former manager Valerien Ismael who aimed to halt the usual last-minute panic during the winter opening.

January 'panic' signings from past windows include Jefferson Montero, Stefan Johansen, Marc Wilson and Lee Peltier, it's fair to say that those incomings won't live long in the memory.

However, Albion planned their transfers carefully and got what they needed from the market.

Daryl Dike

Lauded as Ismael's number one priority, a striker simply had to come through the door in an attempt to solve their xG woes.

Their EFL Championship campaign was at a standstill and they were in jeopardy of dropping out of the top six, which would be deemed as a significant failure.

Following his exciting crusade to the play-off semi-final with Barnsley managed by Ismael, it was clear from the beginning of the Frenchman's tenure that Dike would be at the top of his shopping list.

The American international penned a four-and-a-half-year deal from Orlando City and cost the Baggies a fee of around £7 million.

However despite showing clear planning and ambition, the dream transfer soon turned into a problem as the 21-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in only his second game against Peterborough United.

Signing Dike will prove to be worthy of the price tag paid for such a high potential player, but with the forward now out for eight weeks, it will take him even longer to get his Albion career up and running.

Andy Carroll

Signed following the expiration of his contract at Reading, the striker wasn't a signing West Brom supporters would've expected to make at the beginning of the window.

But due to the injury to their first-choice forward target, Ismael was in need of short term cover, and the Gateshead-born striker was the man to provide just that.

The former Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Ham United man signed a six-month deal and made his debut in the 2-0 defeat to Millwall.

Jordan Hugill

Having joined from Norwich City on loan in the summer, Hugill's spell at Albion was a torrid one for both parties.

Expected to fill a goalscoring void that he's never really filled throughout his career, the 29-year-old only managed a single goal during his time at The Hawthorns.

However, there have to be question marks raised over whether Ismael got anywhere the best out of the forward.

Played as a lone striker in his front three throughout his time, the former Preston North End, Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers man has always been at his most effective in a front two.

But some of the chances missed have to go down as inexcusable, and following being frozen out by the ex-boss, saving on his wages was probably the best option.

Hugill has since then gone on to join Cardiff City on loan.

Robert Snodgrass

Having joined from West Ham for a nominal fee during Sam Allardyce's reign as manager last January, the Scottish international had only made 15 appearances for the club.

Often used in a central midfield role throughout the campaign, Snodgrass reportedly became frustrated with Ismael's obsession with data and statistics.

This led to a spat between manager and player, directing to the Scotsman's omission from the matchday squads.

Apparently a well-liked figure in the dressing room, this could've possibly spread the bad atmosphere throughout the squad.

However, with the midfielder one of the highest-paid at the club and now at the age of 34, it was always likely that he would part ways with the club.

Mutually terminating his contract on deadline day, his time with the club finally came to an end.
