Hull City Head Coach Shota Arveladze was incredibly disappointed after his side’s defeat at the hands of Barnsley at the MKM Stadium by two goals to nil.

Despite Keane Lewis-Potter having an early chance, City never really looked like threatening Barnsley and a bumper crowd of over 16,000 were left frustrated.

  • "The boys know themselves"

Disappointed, very disappointed – especially first half,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting how slowly we played in that first half and that always makes it difficult.

The boys they know themselves. Sometimes you don’t have to say too much. They are honest, nice boys and we did not play as a team. They don’t need anyone to tell them that.”

In front of the largest crowd of the season, City had the chance to go ahead on two minutes but Keane Lewis-Potter’s miss set the tone for an evening of frustration and disappointment for Arveladze’s team.

  • "We have to stay positive"

The pressure was on us when you get this type of game at home,” he said. “We get a good chance at the start from Keano but then we gave the ball away… it is always difficult.”

We have to all stay positive,” he said when asked about how he felt about the nature of the defeat. “It was a full house and the supporters helped us right until the last minute. We tried in the second half – maybe we could have tried a little bit more – we had a good chance with Smith and we gave the points away.

On the subject of Smith, the Coach admitted he needed to make sure he takes his chances when he gets them. Smith was put one-on-one on 70 minutes with the Barnsley keeper but couldn't pull a goal back for his side.

When you are a striker, you may have 30 minutes and you get chances – he read the game well and runs onto good balls but it about the last touch and you need to make it.

City fans will be hoping that their side put this performance behind them - and quickly - as they visit relegation rivals Peterborough United on Saturday.
