Former landlords Birmingham City will be looking to get one over on their old tenants Coventry City when they face off in a Midlands derby at St. Andrew's on Good Friday.

Mark Robins' Coventry will be hoping to record back-to-back wins after their shock 3-1 win away to runaway Championship leaders Fulham last Sunday.

Conversely, Lee Bowyer will be hoping his Blues side can right some wrong after they fell to a 2-0 defeat away to play-off chasers Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

  • Team news

Bowyer will be grateful for the return of Lyle Taylor, after he was ruled out of last weekend's defeat at the City Ground due to the loan agreement between the two clubs.

However, Blues still have injuries to contend with.

George Friend is the closest to returning for Blues, as BirminghamLive reported, with him expected to return to first-team training in the week leading up to the Coventry game.

Neil Etheridge has been ruled out of the match after suffering concussion, following a collision with Djed Spence during the loss in Nottingham.

And as for Teden Mengi, Bowyer confirmed that he had returned to parent club Manchester United with a hamstring problem and would not play for Blues again.

Robins and Coventry are also contending with their own injury problems.

Although, the Sky Blues' manager confirmed to CoventryLive that there was some good news regarding Jodi Jones, Liam Kelly and Kyle McFadzean.

All three have now returned to training, but are not expected to be available this weekend.

As for Josh Eccles, he is expected to return to training the week following the game, and Jordan Shipley will remain unavailable after testing positive for Covid before the Fulham game.

  • Predicted lineups

Birmingham City: Trueman (GK), Colin, Roberts, Gordon, Hernandez, Gardner, Sunjic, Bacuna, Pedersen, Hogan, Taylor

Coventry City: Moore (GK), Dabo, Bidwell, Hyam, Rose, Maatsen, Hamer, Sheaf, O'Hare, Allen, Gyokeres

  • Ones to watch

Lyle Taylor is Blues' one to watch.

Since joining on loan from Forest in January, the former AFC Wimbledon and Charlton talisman has been a rare glimpse of talent and entertainment in another disappointing season for Blues.

In nine appearances since joining, Taylor has netted four goals and provided one assist, most recently scoring the winner in another Midlands derby against West Brom.

Taylor and Blues fans alike will be hoping his can repeat that feat this Friday when they face the Sky Blues.

Gustavo Hamer is again the one to watch for Coventry.

The Dutch-born Brazilian midfielder was at the heart of City's shock win away at Fulham.

His corner delivery proved too difficult for the champions elect to deal with, as he picked up his first assist of the afternoon when Michael Rose nodded in City's first.

And the victory was rounded out in the way it started: with Hamer at the heart of it.

He beat Marek Rodak to a loose ball in the penalty area and found Callum O'Hare at the back post, who tapped in the third and gave Hamer his second assist of the game and seventh of the season (as per WhoScored.com)

  • Past meetings

Birmingham generally tend to have the better of Coventry.

In the 60 previous occasions that  they have faced each other, Blues have won 24 times, the Sky Blues have won on 17 occasions, whilst the points have been shared 17 times.

In this season's reverse fixture, the spoils were shared as they drew 0-0 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Blues could perhaps count themselves lucky to come away with the point though, as they finished the game with 10 men, after Ryan Woods was sent off on 82 minutes.

  • How to watch

The game has been selected for overseas broadcast, and as such will not be available to watch on iFollow. Both clubs have urged overseas fans to check their local listings.

In the UK, Sky Sports customers will be able to watch the game via the Red Button. Fans will also be able to watch the game live on iFollow.
