According to a report by Spanish newspaper MARCA, FC Barcelona are interested in Uruguayan playmaker Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who plays for Defensor Sporting in his home country and was a part of the U20 side that lost on penalty kicks to France in the FIFA U20 World Cup final.

It is not clear whether Barça's interest in the player is for the first team or the Barcelona B squad, but it is far more likely that De Arrascaeta would see playing team with the reserves. The attacking midfielder made 16 appearances for Defensor Sporting last season, recording 3 goals. He also notched 2 goals in 8 appearances with the Uruguay U20 team.

The interest from Barcelona comes after Spain U20 coach Julen Lopetegui, whose team was eliminated by Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the tournament, claimed in an interview that De Arrascaeta was bound for Sevilla.

De Arrascaeta prefers to operate in the center of the field behind the strikers, but can also play out wide to the right. He has slick dribbling skills and is a real threat from set pieces. If his destination is indeed Spain, he appears to be capable of success, whether it be with Barcelona, Sevilla, or any other club that becomes interested.
