On Thursday morning, Jos Luhukay announced that he had resigned as VfB Stuttgart head coach. The club have agreed to this.

The differences between Luhukay and sporting director, Jan Schindelmeiser became so great that the Dutchman has seemingly found it impossible to continue.

The Swabians also confirmed that Luhukay's assistant, Remy Reijnierse has also been released.

Luhukay has his say

Luhukay's lawyer, Markus Buchberger told SID that the manager would "require no compensation" to depart; perhaps a sign of how much the relationship had broken down.

Quoted in kicker, the 53-year-old said: "This step is not easy for me, because in the first few weeks of my work for VfB Stuttgart I felt the trust of the fans and team."

Luhukay feels there should "always be a single line of all sporting board members responsible for the co-operation and management of the sporting sections".

He also believes "a full confidence of the team responsible in my work" is necessary, and that "this basis is no longer available at VfB Stuttgart".

Poor league form hasn't helped matters

Clear favourites for promotion, their 2. Bundesliga season has been far from perfect and they currently sit in ninth position.

Already six points behind Eintracht Braunschweig at the top, Luhukay's men suffered two defeats and earned two wins in their opening four games.

Even the victories have been far from convincing, with narrow triumphs over FC St. Pauli and SV Sandhausen the only source of joy this season.

After coming on as an impact sub against St. Pauli, Luhukay still hadn't shown true faith in Alexandru Maxim; despite him grabbing a goal and assist in the 2-1 win.

Simon Terodde also hasn't found the goalscoring touch he had at VfL Bochum last season, but they will hope to turn that around against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday.
